- [02:07:13] patient: Jennifer Miller I actually thought my first session was awful. The program was telling me to inhale/exhale but the ball on the screen was going the opposite way of whatever direction it told me. I couldn't figure out the movements at all using my pelvic floor muscles and the only reason the stars or agility one went well was because I was using my core muscles. it was extremely challenging and I couldn't figure it out. it took me forever to even get the thing calibrated and that was frustrating because I couldn't figure out how to use my muscles to calibrate it well. :(

- [15:28:08] treatment PT: Sarah Dudley Oh no, I'm sorry to hear the first session felt so frustrating! This is actually really common and it's important feedback — thank you for sharing all of that detail. Keep in mind this is something totally new to you so there is a bit of a learning curve as you get used to the pod and learn how to properly contract and relax your pelvic floor. The best way to get more comfortable with these exercises is to continue to practice them with more sessions. As we practice more, I would rather you focus on learning the movements and be less concerned about hitting the targets and starts. For calibration, try this: take a slow inhale to fully relax first, then on your exhale gently squeeze and lift. Even a small contraction is enough to calibrate. I'll also attach a video here that goes over the movements and breathing for you to review.

- [02:02:21] patient: Jennifer Miller those videos didn't really help and the session was just as bad. the only way I got the ball to move was by moving hips up and down. when I just try to contact or release my pelvic floor muscles, the ball doesn't move at all and I know moving my hips defeats the purpose of the exercises. when I was working with a pelvic floor PT specialist, she thought this program would be better because I couldn't get down the movements. I know it hasn't been long, but so far I'm just getting frustrated because I can't even get the thing to calibrate without moving my entire body.
- [17:54:24] treatment PT: Sarah Dudley Your strength level right now sounds like is sitting a little below the threshold the pod needs to detect a contraction. While I know thats frustrating I how you keep up with your sessions because they will be so beneficial to building up your strength! One thing you can try and do is to put a small towel or pillow between your knees and gently squeeze them together as you contract. Yes you are still compensating but you should be able to work more on your forms and keep your hips quieter. Another idea I want to float is focusing on no pod sessions for a week or 2 and then resuming the pod. The pod is just a tool - it's the exercises and the consistency that are what will strengthen your pelvic floor. If your frustration is overriding wanting to do your exercises, that is definitely not what we're looking for!

- [17:24:16] treatment PT: Sarah Dudley So glad to see you continued with a no pod session yesterday. How did it go?
- [23:09:01] patient: Jennifer Miller It was less frustrating because I wasn't trying to hit any targets, but I'm not sure how effective it is because I have no idea if I'm doing the exercises correctly.

- [16:05:19] treatment PT: Sarah Dudley So glad to hear it was less frustrating! If you still need some extra feedback for the sensation/ensure that you're performing the movements properly, you can sit on a rolled up towel to feel your perineum lift away from the towel when you actively contract and gently release back down into the surface as you relax. The important thing truly is consistently doing the exercises. Over time you’ll feel a stronger squeeze, better ability to relax, and gain more control of these muscles!
